||Rotorua Police Station was designed, built and implemented as a new state-of-the-art building. This kind of building deserved a state-of-art automation & energy management system. The request was to implement an OPEN Control System that is modern, flexible, robust, reliable, easy to operate, able to be maintained by more than one (different) service provider(s), easy for integration with other services…
There wasn’t better option than to offer KNX solution for this project. The KNX system (Lighting Control, Energy Management & Energy Measurement)is further integrated into the BMS system via KNX/IP to BACNet/IP for exchange of information, graphical presentation, control & monitoring, user interaction, overriding and trending.
The information provided by KNX system combined with mechanical information (from the BMS via BACnet) are graphically presented on the PC screen for user’s easy operation of the system, monitoring, commanding and if required for quick overriding.

||ABB - daylight harvesting, presence detection, constant lighting control, energy/power measurement (including Voltage, current, frequency, power...) & reporting

||The following applications are utilised on this site via KNX devices:
-Daylight harvesting - due to a number of large windows, significant amount of floor area is affected by daylight
-Constant lighting control - all dimmable luminaires maintain constant lux level all time
-Presence detection detects occupants presence in the zones
-Time Control based on time clock, occupants working hours, different functions are implemented
-Automatic operation - operation of various devices is enabled and disabled automatically as per requirement
-Astronomical time clock for control of outside lightin

||Integration with HVAC that is controlled from the KNX system via presence detection (HVAC zones are switched into comfort mode when occupancy signal received) and load shedding (systems turns OFF when high consumption detected)
||Utilising smart metering (as explained below), the following functions are enabled on the KNX system:
-Metering of all electrical consumers
-data logging of all connected consumers
-peak demand - monitoring and action demand that exceed
-load shedding for electrical & mechanical devices
-implementation of load shedding of Chillers via KNX/BACnet
||Every DB (Distribution Board) installed on site consists of 3 sections: lighting, power & mechanical. Each section has a meter that measures various electrical values (Voltage, Current, frequency per phase, power, harmonics...). All meters are connected via KNX in a metering system and all these information are available to the customer for monitoring and controlling of other devices. All available values are depicted on the GUI interface, consumption is calculated and utilised for load shedding.
||All KNX devices c/w their control & monitoring presented on the BMS graphical user interface package. The GUI depicts:
-floor plans with location of installed devices
-status of controllable device (ON/OFF or dim %)
-status of monitored devices (e.g. Occupied/Unoccupied presence detectors)
-remote connection for monitoring controlling and software changes (ETS4 supplementary installed on the local PC)
-alarms related to presented devices set-up to inform about failures, issues and for further maintenance
-trending of all connected devices for further improvement & check-up
||Logical functions for Load Shedding & Time control were implemented to monitor and control all communicable devices.
On this site, BMS that communicates BACNet/IP via KNX interface, supervise all KNX system (monitor, control, alarms any anomalies, trend information...)

The ETS4 supplementary version is installed on the site PC and it is used for any diagnostics or remote program modifications or implementation.
