Summary Description TBGN: The independent institution under public law “Technical Services Glarus Nord” integrates since January 1st, 2011 the former electricity supplier EW Näfels, EW Niederurnen, EW Mollis, EW Oberurnen, EV Bilten, EV Filzbach, EV Obstalden and EV Mühlehorn. It ensures the energy supply of the new municipality Glarus Nord with round about 15.000 inhabitants. For further details see www.tbgn.ch Utilization: In the new office building “Grids” all employees responsible for the operation of the grid are housed together. The section “Grids” plans, builds and operates the whole energy grid and all data networks within the supplied area. Motivation: TBGN offers consulting for energy efficiency. For that reason it was obvious to use the new building as reference project where this technology can be demonstrated to all interested parties. In addition TBGN wanted to offer to the employees an ideal work environment.

Lighting Ceiling lights with constant light control using ABB DALI Light Controller DLRS/8.16.1 Workplace lighting with Waldmann free-standing luminaires sending the presence signal via EnOcean to Weinzierl EnOCean/KNX Gateways (thus the installation costs could be drastically reduced while paying attention to the esthetical requirements by using less presence detectors)
Shutter control Griesser KNX shading control with EMX-8 Weather Station: - Solar tracking - Frost protection - Wind protection Decentrally installed MSX-2 Actuators In addition perforated lamellas have been used, as these let pass through more light while avoiding glare. Thus the efficiency could be increased once again.
Heating, ventilation, air conditioning The waste heat of the generators in the power station is recovered for heating, for cooling the water passing the turbines is used. The power station is located in a nearby building. Ventilation: The necessary air volume per room is defined by CO2-KNX Sensors and KNX drive actuators control the supply and extract air flow. Heating: The “Minergy Room Comfort Module” controls the room temperature taking into consideration if the room is occupied (presence detector) or the windows are open.
Alarm Systems In case of fire alarm KNX: - Switches on all lights - Moves up shutters - Unlocks doors - Opens entrance gates
Technical Surveillance - In case of power failure the main gate is opened (all secured via on-site UPS system) - In case of storm/thunderstorm open windows are signalled (avoiding water damage)
Energy Management All loads like lighting, heating, cooling (with exception of PCs & printers as these switch off themselves) are switched off when not used. This could be confirmed 100% by control measurements. In this way the stand-by consumption could be reduced to nearly zero.
Smart Metering Is in planning phase and a first test installation will be made in December..
Audio / Video Door interphones: When the call button is pushed, a signal is sent on the bus. As a result the visualization server (iBricks) takes a photo of the person and stores it. Thanks to the iBricks server a live picture of the person can be displayed by a widget on the PC. With a “button” the door can be opened via KNX. Voice communication is ensured via call sequence with the telephone. This solution has proved its worth since no further HW & SW is required.
Visualization Visualization is defined on two levels: 1. Workplace. At the workplace only the required information/functions are available. This is realized by a widget. 2. For the person, responsible for the site, a complete visualization of the floor plan is available. All states resp. measurement values like open doors/gates/windows, temperature values, humidity, CO2, wind direction, wind velocity, global radiation (because of photovoltaics) are accessible.
Interfaces with other systems - Messages of the network control center are captured by binary inputs for further visualization by the widget - On activation of the emergency heating system an email is sent - Integration into the TYCO fire alarm system
Remote Surveillance/Control The visualization is also accessible for selected persons outside of the operations center
